Shrug, Type-1-2

A shrug can mean I don't know the answer to your question but I'm willing to try to figure it out with you, like when someone asks what time the meeting starts and you just lift your shoulders in a soft shrug to say you're as clueless as they are but open to help

In some cultures a shrug shows you're being polite without making a point, so if you're in a debate and you shrug you're saying I agree and disagree all at once, kind of like nodding your head to say I'm listening but not necessarily agreeing

On social media a shrug is how you say I feel this but I don't feel the need to explain why I feel it, so when you post about politics and someone replies with a shrug emoji they're telling you they get your point but don't want to argue over it

In relationships a shrug can mean I'm not mad but I'm not happy either, so if your partner shrugs after you mention forgetting their birthday, they're telling you they don't want to blow it out of proportion but they're keeping score
