Microsoft's design previously featured a more neutral, bored expression. Samsung’s design previously looked more guilty or worried. Not to be confused with 😌 Relieved Face, which has similarly shaped eyes but in a happier expression.

Pensive Face was approved as part of Unicode 6.0 in 2010 and added to Emoji 1.0 in 2015.
