A trap intended to catch a mouse, rat, or other unwanted rodent. Metaphorically used in emoji form to suggest any kind of trap or entrapment.
The style of trap shown on major platforms has a box held high with a single stick. A wedge of cheese is used to lure a mouse into the box, knocking the stick away and trapping - but not killing - the mouse.
This is distinct from other forms of trap which kill or injure upon capture.
Mouse Trap was approved as part of Unicode 13.0 in 2020 and added to Emoji 13.0 in 2020.
The 🪤 emote, also known as the Mouse Trap emote, depicts a metal trap used to catch rodents. It was added to Unicode in 2020 and is commonly used to represent traps, trickery, or being caught off guard.
