On social media, 'bought into' is less about money and more about commitment. When I say I bought into that viral challenge, I mean I'm all in, no backing out. It's like agreeing to a bet with your followers,lose face if you don't see it through, and make a statement if you do.

For my Gen Z cousin, 'playing ball' means more than agreeing to a plan. It's about being part of the team, following the rules, and not messing things up for the group. She uses it like a badge of honor, especially when she's trying to show she's cooperative but still cool.
