At work, when we say someone is 'on the ball,' we mean they're sharp and proactive. I noticed this in my team meetings , the person who caught onto every detail and acted fast got praised for being 'on the ball.' It’s a way to highlight reliability without saying it directly.

My teen sister uses 'down to code' when talking about how things are done in her school. It means everything is by the book, fair and equal. She says it about the strict grading system, like it’s a code everyone has to follow , no exceptions, no favors.
