This guy is all bitter and brooding, like he's had a bad day that just won't end. His heart is broken, and instead of hope, he's holding on to a whole cloud of gloomy, negative thoughts. You'd use these to describe someone who's not just sad, but really, really fed up with life's little cruelties.
